Better Health to launch national stop smoking campaign

The new initiative is set to launch 27 December.

January has always been a popular month for people to quit smoking, and in 2024, the NHS are capitalising on that. The national initiative launching 27 December aims to build on October’s Stoptober campaign, which championed the message ‘good things happen when you stop smoking’.

The campaign will promote the benefits of quitting and signposts to a range of quitting support and information pharmacy teams can signpost customers to on the Better Health.

28 December will see the NHS kick off the campaign with a national PR moment, enlightening the population on the harms of smoking with a specific focus on generational harms. “Children are up to three times as likely to start smoking if their parents smoke.”

The campaign will seek to encourage the public to stop smoking by appealing to them across a multitude of media: TV, video-on-demand, radio, out-of-home advertising and search. Free resources (posters, social media assets, web banners, digital screens and more) are available to use in the pharmacy and spread awareness from the Department of Health & Social Care website.
